A multimedia experience exploring a day in the life of a future neighborhood.

Approach

Leading up to the release of Sidewalk Lab’s Master Innovation and Development Plan for a Toronto neighborhood, we had heard from hundreds of residents and knew we needed to provide new ways for the public to engage, beyond technical documentation of the plan. So we imagined a multimedia experience that would welcome the public to explore a “day in the life” of the future neighborhood. A large-scale, tactile model with integrated animations and lighting illustrated the physical plan, program, and technological innovations—from pneumatic freight delivery to stormwater collection on blue roofs—in an accessible way that engaged people of all ages and expertise.

Role

As project lead, I distilled the 1,500 page project plan into a digestible design concept, aligned internal stakeholders, onboarded design consultants, acted as a translator between designers and subject matter experts, provided design direction on storyboards and animations, and managed the project end-to-end.
